Gender STI Hosts Workshop on Integrating the Gender Perspective at IEEE BHI – BSN 2021

The Gender STI project is excited to address the topic of gender equality in science, technology and innovation (STI) at the renowned IEEE BHI – BSN 2021 Conference from July 27 to 30.

Gender STI will host the “Integrating the Gender Perspective in Science, Technology and Innovation” workshop on at the IEEE BHI – BSN 2021. The workshop, featuring top women scientists, policy experts and higher education professionals from across the world, will address challenges associated with integrating the gender perspective in STI as well as work towards gender equality.

The aim of the workshop is to leverage participants’ knowledge, diversity, background in policy dialogues and gender expertise to discuss a strategy to promote gender equality in scientific careers, gender balance in decision making and the integration of the gender dimension in research and innovation content.

Despite the efforts in recent years, European Union countries and many other countries around the world are making slow progress on their goal to achieve full gender equality. According to the European Institute for Gender Equality, if the EU continues at its current pace, it will take at least 60 years to achieve this goal.

In the area of STI, women still remain underrepresented in all fields. Progress made towards gender equality has recently been threatened by the coronavirus pandemic. Some say it has magnified existing inequalities between women and men in science.

If we want our science to be filled with the best and brightest, we must ensure there are equal opportunities, access and visibility for women in the field.

Gender STI’s workshop will be held online on July 27 from 15:40 to 18:15 CEST. All IEEE BHI – BSN participants are warmly invited to join.
