Identifying the Gender Gap through data visualization

Visual representations not only aid in understanding and analyzing data but also aid in retention. However, choosing the appropriate visualization method for a dataset can be complex, considering factors like understanding the basics of data visualization, audience expertise, medium (e.g., paper vs. screen), and the consideration of 2D vs. 3D representations.

One significant application of data visualization discussed is addressing the gender gap, particularly through initiatives like the Gender Equality Index (GEI) by the European Institute of Gender Equality (EIGE) within the European Union. The GEI serves as a composite indicator to measure gender equality and monitor progress across the EU, accompanied by graphical representations for clarity. Despite these visual aids, fully understanding the gender gap remains challenging. The summary hints at a deeper exploration in the subsequent chapter, which will delve into various visualization methods for the GEI index, analyzing their interpretations, advantages, disadvantages, and proposing tailored solutions for specific inquiries.
